This Week with The Imperfect Mum: Mindset, Grief Support & Things I'm Loving

Why I’m Starting a Weekly Newsletter

One of the best things about being a therapist and coach is that I’m constantly learning—whether it’s from my own experiences, my clients, or the books and podcasts I dive into. And as my kids get older, every day feels like a school day! I wanted to create a weekly newsletter to share what’s been helping me, what’s been making life a little easier, and the insights that might help you feel lighter, calmer, and more in control (even if life still feels chaotic!).

💡 What I’ve Been Working On

🎙️ This Week’s Podcast: The Sneaky Ways Perfectionism Shows Up

Perfectionism and anxiety go hand in hand, and I see it all the time. We think being ‘better’ or ‘more in control’ will make us feel less anxious, but it actually fuels self-criticism and overthinking. Even if you don’t think you’re a perfectionist (honestly, looking at the state of my house right now, no one would think I am!), this episode will help you start recognising those sneaky ways it creeps into motherhood. Spoiler: perfect doesn’t exist—and chasing it is a waste of your already limited energy. Listen here

📌 Mindset Shift: Carrots vs. Sticks

Lately, I’ve been thinking about motivation—are we moving towards something because we want it, or because we’re afraid of what happens if we don’t? If your drive comes from fear (e.g., ‘If I don’t do this, I’m failing’), it’s only going to drain you. But when we focus on what excites us, rather than what we’re afraid of, everything changes. Imagine working towards something because it lights you up, rather than because you’re scared of getting it wrong. That’s where real freedom is.

📝 Something I’m Planning

I’m so excited to be planning a Manifestation, Breathwork, and Movement in Music session with my amazing friend Nicola from Breath and Move It—and of course, a spicy margarita because I want everything I do to bring a bit more joy to motherhood! This event is going to leave you feeling more energized and excited about life, help you realise what an amazing job you're already doing, and give you the tools you need to feel more joy, more calm, and more presence in your life. More details coming soon—it’s going to be in Brighton!

🤍 Supporting Those Experiencing Grief and Baby Loss

Why We Need to Talk About Baby Loss

One of the hardest parts of my job, yet something I feel so privileged to do, is supporting women through grief and baby loss. This is one of the last taboos, and even within my own circle, I’ve seen how many women instinctively hide away and wait until it's "over" before speaking about it. We minimize it, but grief isn’t something you can brush under the carpet.

When we’re pregnant, we’re already dreaming about the due date, imagining how our other kids will be with a sibling, planning every little detail of what life will be like. The loss of those dreams is deeply painful, and it deserves to be acknowledged.

How to Support Yourself or a Friend Through Baby Loss

  • Talk about it: Sharing your feelings can be a powerful step toward healing. You're not "too much," and your grief is valid, whether it's your first loss or your third. Shame dies in safe spaces.

  • Support friends experiencing loss: If a friend is grieving, don’t avoid them because you’re unsure of what to say. A simple "I don't know what to say, but I'm here for you" can mean the world. Silence can be isolating—your presence matters.

  • Practical support matters: I was thinking about sending a Cook box and some paper plates—because even the headspace to eat can feel overwhelming, and not having to worry about cleaning is just one less burden.

Charities That Provide Baby Loss Support

If you or someone you know is struggling with baby loss, these charities offer essential support:

If you're feeling stuck or need someone to talk to, please send me a message. I do what I do because I love helping people. 💛

📌 Things I’ve Loved This Week

🎧 Podcasts I Listened to & Loved

  • Rise with Roxie – Cain Durcot Edition – I had never heard of him before, but the way he talked about manifestation and grief was so lovely. And I’m the biggest Roxie fangirl!

  • The Law of Attraction Changed My Life – Paul McKenna – I’ve been thinking about training in something more somatic since I work with a lot of trauma, and this episode completely sold me on TFT tapping. I obviously believe in talking therapy, but I also do so many different things for my own self-development.

  • Emme Grede on Martha Stewart – I love beautiful, successful women, and as a mindset coach, she has such amazing insight. Listening to her gets me so excited about what’s possible.

I’ve just started this, and I already know it’s going to be a game-changer. My brother got it for me for Christmas because he knows me so well, and I am the biggest believer that you have to put your own oxygen mask on first. I’ll share more thoughts once I’ve read more!

📺 TV Show I’ve Just Finished: A Thousand Blows on Disney

It’s so violent, I spent half the time under a blanket covering my ears, but the acting is just next level! I also love anything about the East End—I have no idea why, but I always dreamed of marrying a cockney and Mary Carr the female gang leader is the epitome of a strong woman supporting women.

🛍️ Something I Bought & Loved: ASOS Edition Sydney Barrel-Leg Jeans

As mums, we can lose our style as our bodies change, but when we look good, we feel good. I’ve been feeling a bit chubby lately, and these jeans just make me feel put together while still being as comfy as wearing joggers. Also, life just feels better when you put some earrings on even with a tracksuit.

✨ Want to work with me 1:1?✨

If you’ve been feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or like you’re constantly putting yourself last, I’d love to support you through 1:1 Therapeutic Coaching. What makes this different? Because I combine therapy and coaching, I help you break free from old patterns, heal past wounds, and actually start taking action toward the life you want. Therapy helps us understand why we feel stuck, and coaching gives us the tools to move forward—together, they create real, lasting change.

This isn’t about ‘fixing’ what feels wrong—it’s about finally feeling lighter, calmer, and more in control of your own happiness. Book a call here to find out more.
