How I Work & Policies
As a qualified and BACP-accredited counsellor, I am committed to offering a safe, confidential, and supportive space for you to explore whatever is going on in your life. Below you’ll find an overview of how I work, along with important information about privacy, confidentiality, and the ethical standards I follow.
How I Work & My Policies
As a qualified BACP-accredited counsellor and a certified coach, I offer both therapeutic counselling and mindset coaching to support you in different ways, depending on your goals and needs. Below you’ll find a clear overview of how I work, what you can expect, and the ethical frameworks I follow for each service.
Counselling vs Coaching – What’s the Difference?
Counselling is a confidential space to explore emotional challenges, past experiences, and deeper patterns that may be impacting your wellbeing. It’s especially helpful if you’re feeling stuck, anxious, overwhelmed, or navigating life transitions like motherhood, loss, or relationship challenges.
Coaching is future-focused and action-oriented. It’s ideal if you’re ready to make a change, work on mindset, set goals, and move forward in a more empowered way. Coaching may include tools like breathwork, visualisation, journaling, and practical steps.
You don’t need to know which one is right – we can explore that together in an initial call.
Sessions
-
Sessions are 50–90 minutes, depending on whether you’re receiving counselling or coaching.
-
Counselling is usually weekly or fortnightly. Coaching can be more flexible (weekly, fortnightly, or monthly depending on your package).
-
Both in-person and online options are available.
-
Fees & Cancellations
-
All fees are agreed in advance.
-
Cancellations made with at least 12 hours’ notice are not charged.
-
Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice are usually charged in full.
-
If I need to cancel, I will provide as much notice as possible and offer an alternative where I can.
-
Confidentiality & Boundaries
Counselling is a confidential service. What you share stays between us, with exceptions only if:
-
There is a serious risk to you or someone else.
-
I’m required by law to disclose information (e.g., court order).
-
Your therapy is part of training, placement, or professional requirement.
As part of ethical counselling practice, I also attend regular supervision. No identifying information is ever shared in these sessions.
Coaching is also a private space, though it is not bound by the same legal and ethical obligations as counselling. That said, I treat all coaching conversations with the same respect, care, and professionalism. If at any point I believe coaching is not the right fit (for example, if deeper emotional support is needed), I will discuss this with you and recommend appropriate next steps.
Data Protection (GDPR)
I take your privacy seriously. All data is stored securely and used only for the purposes of our work together.
-
Session notes are brief and factual. Identifying info is stored separately.
-
Contact details are kept on a password-protected phone or device and deleted at the end of our work.
-
Notes are retained for 7 years (in line with counselling requirements) and then destroyed.
You have the right to access, amend, or withdraw your consent to data processing at any time by submitting a written request.
Ethical Practice
As a counsellor, I work under the BACP Ethical Framework and Complaints Procedure.
As a coach, I uphold high standards of professionalism and integrity. Coaching is not a regulated industry in the same way as therapy, which is why I always clarify the type of support being offered so you can make an informed choice.
Still Not Sure What You Need?
If you’re unsure whether you need therapy or coaching, that’s completely okay. You don’t need to have it all figured out – that’s what I’m here for. We can discuss your needs in an initial call and work out the best path together.
